VISA INFORMATION

REQUIREMENTS FOR NEPAL VISA ON ARRIVAL:

  • A valid passport with at least 6-month of validity on the date you are entering Nepal and a blank passport page
  • One passport -size photo (35mm x 45mm) with a light background
  • Visa on arrival will not be granted at the immigration at entry points of Nepal for citizen or national of Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan; (Visa will only be granted at Nepal Embassy or Diplomatic Mission in your home country.)
  • If you’re applying Visa on Arrival, your Airlines will require a return air ticket or outward bound destination proof before allowing you to check-in. Please check with your respective Airlines.

A visa for Nepal can be obtained on arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and at Nepal-India border entry points such as Kakadvitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Gaddachowki as well as Kodari at the Nepal-China border.

Visa can be obtained at Arrival only through payment of cash in the following currency: Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen.

Credit card, Indian currency and Nepali currency are not accepted as payment of visa fee.

 

*Please note:
There are electronic visa application stations available in Tribhuvan International Airport now hence you do not need to submit a passport sized photo as your photo will be taken via the machine. However, we still strongly recommend you to bring along a photo or two for your trekking permits. There is a photo booth available inside the airport and it costs 200 NPR.

 

OBTAINING NEPAL VISA OUTSIDE OF NEPAL:

Outside of Nepal, a visa can also be obtained with your local or nearest Nepal Embassy or Diplomatic Mission in your home country. Requirements vary therefore please check prior your trip

 

Visa Fee based on your duration
Multiple entry     15  days              US$ 25 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry      30 days              US$ 40 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry      90 days              US$ 100 or equivalent convertible currency

Please note that Visa can be obtained at Arrival only through payment of cash in the following currency: Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen.

 

Gratis (Free) Visa
For first visit in one visa year (January to December), gratis visa for 30 days is available only for nationals of South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

However, for further extension of the visa can be done from Immigration Department on payment of visa fee as specified above. Indian nationals do not require visa to enter into Nepal.

 

Nepal Visa For Indian Nationals
Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal.
As per the Nepalese Immigration, Indian Nationals Traveling to Nepal must posses any one of the following documents:

  1. Passport
  2. Driving License with photo
  3. Photo Identity card issued by a Government Agency
  4. Ration Card with Photo
  5. Election Commission Card with Photo/ Aadhar Card
  6. Identity Card issued by Embassy of India in Kathmandu
  7. Identity Card with Photo issued by Sub- Divisional Magistrate or any other officials above his rank

Nepal Visa For Chinese Nationals
As per official circular of the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, China, Chinese nationals applying for tourist visa to Nepal are being provided “gratis tourist visa” from 5 Jan 2016, from following Nepali missions in the People’s Republic of China:

  • Embassy of Nepal, Beijing
  • Consulate General of Nepal, Lhasa
  • Consulate General of Nepal, Hong Kong
  • Honorary Consulate of Nepal, Shanghai

 

Other Visa Information
Nationals or Citizen from:
Nigeria,
Ghana,
Zimbabwe,
Swaziland,
Cameroon,
Somalia,
Liberia,
Ethiopia,
Iraq,
Palestine and
Afghanistan
will need to obtain visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries, as they do not get visa on arrival at the immigration entry points of Nepal.

 

Visa Extension for Nepal
Tourists can stay for a maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Jan 1 to Dec 31)
If your stay is going to exceed the number of days you’re granted as per your approved visa, please extend your Visa by paying a visit to Department of Immigration,the Kalikasthan, Kathmandu.
