An unseen gem with an outstanding position and enchanting views of Annapurna Sanctuary

The Mardi Himal Trek is a great option if you are looking for a shorter trek in the Annapurna Region that still offers an extraordinary view of the majestic Annapurna massif.

This, relatively new and off the beaten trail, takes the trekkers away from the other busy trail through the forest of Rhododendron and the pristine little settlements & villages of Tamang and Gurung people, all the way up to the base of Mardi Himal. If you have a few extra days you might even consider extending this trek and climbing Mardi Himal (5,587 m) which is on the same ridge line as Machhapuchhre.

DAY 4 - TREK TO FOREST CAMP AT KOKAR

Elevation: 2,600 m / 8,530 ft
Walking Distance: 4 hours
Accommodation: Tea house

From Deurali we leave the main Annapurna trail and trek through a dense but beautiful forest of oak and and rhododendron which typically blooms in April to the Forest Camp of Kokar. DAY 5 - TREK TO LOW CAMP

Elevation: 3,150 m / 10,335 ft
Walking Distance: 5 hours

The trail up to the Low Camp continues through the forest. As we ascend, the forest gradually thins and the vegetation starts to change with more rhododendron and the trees are covered with moss and tree ferns. Once you get to the Low Camp you get to see the first stunning view of Machhapuchhre.

DAY 6 - TREK TO HIGH CAMP

Elevation: 3,600 m / 11,811 ft
Walking Distance: 4 hours

The trail continues through the forest for another 1.5 hours and you are out of the forest as the elevation goes above tree line. On the way to Mardi Himal high camp you can enjoy views of both Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

DAY 7 - TREK TO MARDI HIMAL BASE CAMP & BACK TO LOW CAMP

With an early morning wake up call, we climb along the narrow Mardi Himal Base Camp ridge up to witness the most spectacular sunrise views of the majestic Himalayas. From the base camp, the sun rises and light up the full face of Annapurna South while Fishtail Mountain looms directly overhead with a fantastic panorama view of the south face of Annapurna and all of the peaks in the Annapurna Sanctuary. After taking the view all in, it’s a challenging descent back to to Low Camp where we’ll stay overnight.

DAY 8 - TREK TO JHINU DANDA

Elevation: 1,780 m / 5,840 ft
Walking Distance: 7 hours
Accommodation: Tea house

The trail continues down steeply to the low camp and we will take a different route to complete a circuit. Instead of going back down Mardi Himal and back to Kokar, we take to a hillside village of Siding, about 500 meters above the river alley. Trail continue to descends through the village of Landruk – an ethnic group of Gurung settlement and reach to Jhino danda. We spend the rest of our time to relax on a natural hot spring.
